ASSESSING THE STATUS -- PREDICTING THE FUTURE!
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this one day program participants will be able to:

  1. Determine the “real” status of the project
  2. Convert project data into early action “decision support information”
  3. Accurately predict the future based on history-to-date
  4. Create a powerful decision recommendation grounded in the truth
  5. Impact how projects are examined throughout the life cycle

All too often the decision makers for a project are NOT the same people who are charged with the responsibility for satisfying the project’s triple constraint. This condition creates a challenge and an opportunity: How to create timely decision support information AND how to use this information to influence timely decisions that will have dramatic impact on the outcome of the project and the achievement of organizational objectives.

This data-case driven program will thoroughly examine the myriad approaches to obtaining and validating project status for the project’s most current reporting period and from project inception (cumulative-to-date). These data, when combined with the equivalent of sodium pentothal forecasting and trending methods will deliver an undisputable view into the future of the project. In keeping with the statement: “Whatever has happened in the past will continue to happen in the future, unless someone does something about it”, this crystal clear picture will facilitate meaningful and productive action by the project decision makers.

REGISTRATION

Registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and all supporting materials.

Continental breakfast and registration starts at 8:00am. Workshop begins at 8:30am. A working lunch will be served and the program will end at 4:30. Neil Whitten Professional Development Day
Monday, September 21, 2009
Genoa Woods Conference & Banquet Center
7707 Conference Center Drive
Brighton, MI 48114

Popular speaker and best-selling PM author Neal Whitten takes leadership and project management to a personal level by revealing leading-edge best practices that make all the difference between leading consistently successful projects and playing the victim with troubled projects. If you came to Neal and asked, “I only have one day of my life for our paths to cross. What can you tell me from all you have learned from a 35+ year career that will make my projects and career more successful and rewarding?” This workshop is the one day that Neal would share with you. Successful projects — and careers — don’t just happen, they are made to happen.

Focusing mostly on leadership and soft skills, this thought-provoking seminar reveals choices to make and behaviors to adopt that are invaluable in helping you become a successful project manager and leader. The workshop is based largely on Neal’s best-selling book, Neal Whitten’s No-Nonsense Advice for Successful Projects. Learn to think for yourself, re-energize your initiative and drive, and take control of your destiny. It’s not about the ability of those around you to lead; it’s about your ability to lead, despite what is happening around you.

Topics Include:
  • Leadership styles
  • Being too soft
  • Managing priorities
  • Fostering interpersonal communications
  • Boldness
  • Escalations
  • Integrity
  • Accountability
  • Professional behavior and recognizing professional immaturity
  • Dealing with criticism
  • How to make long-term project commitments
  • Running an effective meeting
  • Duties of the effective project manager
  • The need to fail
  • Dealing with difficult people
  • and so much more.
No theories here! This stuff works! Come prepared to rethink what constitutes effective leadership and project management. You won’t want to miss this!
