Volunteer Plan:
Community Relations Committee
Committee Scope:
The scope of the Community Outreach Committee is to establish a relationship with community organizations to further enhance the value of the chapter to our membership and to the community. Community organizations are local colleges/universities (Eastern, Washtenaw Community College, Cleary University, Schoolcraft, etc.) and other non-profit organizations (ASQ 1010, PMI GLC, PMI Capital Chapter, PMI Thumb Chapter, etc.). The scope of this committee can be expanded with the approval of the board through the submittal of a business case with costs, benefits, and risks associated wit the expansion.
Committee Member Roles:
  • Lead
    • Maintains the focus of the committee, coordinates monthly committee meetings, provides a meeting agenda, and keeps minutes of the meeting documenting decisions, results, direction, and a high level summary of discussions. The minutes are to be submitted to the President of the chapter within a week of the monthly committee meeting taking place. Act as a member of the committee as well as leading the committee.
  • Member
    • Attend the monthly committee meetings; bring ideas on how to enhance existing relationships as well as identify new relationships to establish that will be a benefit to the chapter and the other party.
Committee Member Skill Sets:
  • Lead
    • Leadership, communication, negotiating, team building, excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail
  • Member
    • Communication, negotiating, excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, exposure to community organizations
Committee Time Expectations:
It is expected that each committee member (including the lead) will spend about 8 hours per month working on this committee including a monthly meeting to work on issues and identifying new sources of relationships.
Committee Size:
Ideally, the committee would consist of 3-5 members (including the lead) to provide a diverse perspective of community relationships. Critical mass for the committee is one member, who would be, by default, the lead.
